Developmental norm- age at which a behavior is typically displayed. Newborns can hear better than they can see. Can tell where sounds are coming from. Baby grips anything put in their hand (finger) Interpret new experiences in terms of one"s own existing schema. Example: 2yr old has animal schema: dogs and cats, every animal is either a dog or cat. Adopt or change schema to incorporate new information. Example: told that the animal is a squirrel and not a cat, schema: dogs, cats, squirrels. Developing ability to coordinate sensory input with motor output (action) Recognize that objects continue to exist even though they are no longer visible. Example: toy is put under blanket: without object permanence-it"s gone: with object permanence- know it"s somewhere: preoperational. Egocentric: perceive world only from their point of view. Example: 4yr old on phone with dad and nods head instead of speaking. Example: little girl is asked if she has a sister: yes.
