Recognize anthropological approach to studying feelings in families. *feelings are political and ecologically plastic we are looking at: how the environment constraints and creates opportunities with feelings. Gender roles mom"s cook, clean, pick up kids. Also: expectations of mothers supposed to be nurturing and loving, so when they aren"t, it"s looked down upon. This is reinforced in movies and media too. Women are though - it relates back to motherhood because that"s why women are seen as more nurturing. Feelings are ecologically plastic ex: at a funeral, allowed to cry. Might not agree with how family executes things or go about doing things but they know that their family ultimately loves them and they want the best for their children. Expectations can be disappointed in mom is she is a drug addict and isn"t nurturing.
