Robert hooke fi(cid:396)st guy to see a (cid:272)ell u(cid:374)de(cid:396) the (cid:373)i(cid:272)(cid:396)os(cid:272)ope. Schleiden and schwann all living things are made of cells. The plasma membrane is the outer boundary of the cell. It separates the inside of the cell from the outside of the cell. Within the plasma there are proteins embedded integral and peripheral. Integral proteins run the entire length of the plasma membrane. Peripheral proteins are not embedded and are typically on the inside of the cell. Sometimes they are attached to integral proteins and stuff inside the cell attaches to them. Cholesterol is also found in within the plasma membrane they give rigidity to the plasma (cid:373)e(cid:373)(cid:271)(cid:396)a(cid:374)e so that it does(cid:374)"t (cid:272)ollapse. Glycolipid and glycoproteins are found on the outer part of the plasma membrane (they are called part of the glycocalyx) they allow the cell to know what is going on around them. Cells can touch glycocalyx and understand what that cell is and if it belongs.
