Document Summary
Reading: chapter 11: some background and terminology, terms, covariates: A variable that is measured in your study that is expected to relate to both the independent and dependent variable. Quasi is not random it already exists in the subjects: types of quasi-experimental designs, time series design. Ex: natural disaster, implementation of a new law: equivalent time samples design the treatment is administered repeatedly to the same group. Two groups that are non randomly assigned one is given the treatment and one is given the control condition. An example of this would be experimenting with people who are already depressed. Its not like you"re making them depressed: advantages of quasi-experimental designs. Very useful when you cannot manipulate or control certain conditions. You get to use it for naturally occurring independent variables. For ex if you drive by construction you didn"t choose for it to be there but you can at least observe it: disadvantages of quasi-experimental designs.
