In many cultures, healing rituals include transference and objectification, sacred space, pilgrimage, healing context are used to help patients who have an illness. Nigeria, transference and objectification rituals are transferring the illness from the patient to some object or other being, sometimes the healer itself (kinsley 73). A ritual that is performed is when the patient goes to a river in a deserted place and changes into a white dress and their head is shaved and has small cuts. The healer uses a dove as a sponge and rubs it on the patient body and drowns the illness. The illness is transferred from the patent into the dove. Sacred places are the important part of the healing process. For example, the zinancanteco"s uses the patient"s home and the bed is transformed into sacred space when the healer decorates it with flower and pine boughs (76).
