Law of effect we are more likely to repeat responses that have satisfying effects and less likely to repeat responses that lead to discomfort: reinforcement vs. Learning that occurs without apparent reinforcement and that is not displayed until reinforcement is provided. Learning occurs in the background, but is not displayed until a reward is provided: cognitive maps mental representations of areas that help organisms to navigate.
