Document Summary
Few people actually know the rules and regulations of pu(cid:374)(cid:272)tuatio(cid:374) use. Most of us, (cid:373)u(cid:272)h of the ti(cid:373)e, use the (cid:862)feel good(cid:863) s(cid:272)hool of pu(cid:374)(cid:272)tuatio(cid:374), sa(cid:455)i(cid:374)g, (cid:862)i just feel like i need a (cid:272)o(cid:373)(cid:373)a he(cid:396)e(cid:863) o(cid:396) (cid:862)a se(cid:373)i(cid:272)olo(cid:374) just felt (cid:396)ight. (cid:863) P(cid:396)ofessio(cid:374)al (cid:272)o(cid:373)(cid:373)u(cid:374)i(cid:272)ato(cid:396)s (cid:373)ust gi(cid:448)e up thei(cid:396) (cid:862)feel good(cid:863) philosoph(cid:455) of pu(cid:374)(cid:272)tuati(cid:374)g. the fi(cid:396)st (cid:396)ule of punctuating professionally is this: do not punctuate unless you know a rule. When you even think of adding a mark of punctuation, stop and decide whether it is justified by the rules in this chapter. If not, you probably do not need to punctuate at all. If you find you are punctuating excessively that is, using more than three punctuation marks within any given sentence it is probably time to rewrite that sentence. Sentences requiring many punctuation marks, even if they are all correct, usually are too long and complex to be easily understood.
