Mississippi passed laws that made it illegal for ex-slaves to own land. 1860"s 90% of those living in usa were farmers: drought = economic devastation, abundance of farmers/product = high supply, low demand = depressed prices, south railroad systems ruined. 1866 share-crop system people put on contracts as well as children to respond to master. Loss of confederacy currency, bankruptcy, economic devastation. Death of abe lincoln, confederates took out government. Black codes prevented black children from going to school.
