Cognitive psychology is the study of mental processes. Creativity slide will not be on the test. No matter how old you are, your creativity will not stop. Just because you are old, does not mean you are a wise person. Definition: ability to reason; learning from past experiences; using information and good judgment. Age does not equal wisdom but allows memory of consequences and outcomes to learn to make better decisions. Learning = process of gathering knowledge and skills. Short term: keeps memory in consciousness and limited capacity system (if interrupted while getting new info, not able to repeat it) Takes more time for older adults to retrieve the information needed but are capable of remembering. Long term memory: permanent storage for past experiences. Repetition helps us to keep long term ex: driving to grocery store. A disorder that starts break down of the brain: Might disturb memory, cognitive functions, personality, social functioning and normal activities.
