Functions: produce body components, maintain fluid balance, contribute to acid base balance, form enzyme and hormones, contribute to immune system, provide energy and satiety. Can provide energy but not primary function. Nitrogen makes aa different (kidney eliminate nitrogen) Mainly found in animal products (meat, poultry, milk, white bread, cheese) Bonds formed between amino group of one amino acid and acid (carboxyl) group of another. Eat omega 3 & 6 because body can"t make so much on it"s own. Vegetarians need to find other things to substitute for protein (animal products) Immune system mistakes the food protein for harmful invader. Then enter bloodstream: little dietary protein is present in feces.
