Without consumer base nobody is going to buy products. After president lincoln won his election, he began to prepare for the inaugural speech. He wanted to reach out to people to reassure the country that he was not going to do what they thought he was going to do. He has no desire to end slavery because it is not within his power. He argued it is up to the people to decide if they want to create the civil war. His main focus was to keep the union intact. Argues that states do have the right to rebel against the governments. We have the right to succeed from the union, in which a lot of states did (ch 16 in jones).
