The plan backfired causing inflation and shortages of food and medicine: glasnost- mea(cid:374)i(cid:374)g (cid:862)ope(cid:374)(cid:374)ess(cid:863), glasnost ended censorship and encourages people to discuss openly the problems in the soviet union. Poland was going through harsh economic times. Solidarity- they eventually have over 1 million workers. Lech walesa- the leader of the solidarity group. The soviet union was terrified of this group. The polish workers remain committed to solidarity. So, the soviet union puts lech walesa in jail.
