Public speaking simply one person speaking to any number of people; a larger. Delivery characteristics of both conversation and public speaking: eye contact, voice, body language/physical action. How to enlarge characteristics as one"s audience grows. Eye contact make eye contact with different people for a couple seconds and then move on to someone else in the audience. With each person, you have a moment of communication: do not scan the crowd, do not find a spot above the audience and stare at that spot. Voice project by raising voice, or use mode of projection such as microphone. Body language/physical action stand up, use wider/larger hand gestures, avoid crossing arms, etc. According to james winans in his book, public speaking, conversation quality characterizes good public speaking. Elements of conversational quality: full awareness of contents of one"s words as you utter them (must listen to yourself as you speak, lively sense of communication with listeners.
