Aristotle"s emotions: virtue is a good habit, a habit is a disposition of emotions, this is a book about happiness, emptions and virtue, emotions is anything followed by pleasure and pain. Always have the right amount of fear- that"s right. Still book 2 chapter 8: habits- standard is the median; summary of books 1 and 2, actions- standard is the appropriate, in every particular action, i should try and hit appropriate emotions. Sometimes what"s appropriate is 0 anger, all things being equal. You have to take responsibility- you cannot blame this on your natural characteristics. The metaphor"s implication- being an adult, take responsibility and change what you can change. If we are like stones, there is nothing we can talk about. Different ways in which you are free. You are free to think, to wish, to dream etc and that"s a part of our freedom. Both essential to human nature and they"re not identical.
