Because we see poor people buying food from the groceries; as well as buying steak, we do not realize that poverty is a problem in the u. s. Poverty goes unnoticed in the u. s because there is very little begging for food and starvation. Some may be able to buy food, but their food choices cause them to suffer from malnutrition; hiding their hunger from the public. Food assistance were made available for poor people [pregnant or lactating mothers, infants, small children,etc ] With the help of these assistances, there has been improvements. Hispanics, indians, & members of the household headed by women and children are more at risk for being hungry. The south is a region vulnerable to poverty-related hunger. The blacks as well are vulnerable to poverty-related hunger. Infant mortality rate is also closely associated with poverty and hunger. Eating patterns are shaped by the constraints of poverty.
