One of the most symbolic food for black americans is soul foods . Women"s expressions are embedded in the foods she prepares. Roots type of very important soul food; can be traced back to the times of slavery when slaves brought seeds with them. Watermelon seed is a symbol of the american south. Soul foods were one of the ways blacks were trying to preserve their culture. To black americans, a big body represents health and prosperity. However, in america, being thin means being beautiful. Black women give birth to many children they think that the messages they sent with the births are that they have control over their own body, they are contributing to the black society, and that they are plentiful. Black women rarely have any serious talk except when they are cooking. They favor their own cultural knowledge of food instead of the scientific progress in food.
