WRT 102 Lecture Notes - Lecture 3: Communication, Body Image
Document Summary
Discussion of the semester topic of social media & society; relevant paper topic ideas explored. The differences between facts and inferences will be explored. Read assigned links in blackboard (bb) on developing thesis. Fact: can"t be argued, provable, evidence, objective information. Inference: conclusion based on fact, based on experiences. Opinion: subjective thought, personal feelings or point of view, can be argued. Our society now is now becoming more and more opinion-driven, rather than fact-driven. Inferences are often being made on opinions rather than fact. Essentially, algorithms that are supposed to generate content you like gets the stuff you want and make you want to use it more, but it creates off stuff. Fun fact: the first 24/7 news channels began to exist with coverage of princess diana"s death- people wanted to know what was happening. Downside of this: as more 24/7 news channels began to exist, new content was needed.
