We make decisions to in uence our personal health, sometimes bad or good. Personal determinants: are the biological/genetic in uences and the health/lifestyle choices made by individuals that impact their health/wellness. Social determinants: are the conditions in which people born, grow, live, work and age, including the health system. How personal is health: genetics, family care, family nancial resources, family access to medical support, community commitment to health support, geography, random personal events. Health disparities refer to differences between groups of people. These differences can affect how frequently a disease affects a group, how many people get sick, or how often the disease causes death. Many different populations are affected by dis parities. These include: racial and ethnic minorities, residents of rural areas, women, children, the elderly, persons with disability. Did their lifestyle prevent or start: grandparents on both sides, mom and dad, uncles and aunts, brother and sister.
