IST 195 Lecture Notes - Lecture 8: Overclocking, Cutting Board, Printed Circuit Board
Document Summary
An electronic device which works within a binary digital system and has four main functions. The motherboard is the main circuit board of the system unit. Central processing units (cpus) do all of the processing. Cores are like layers; one chip could have one or more cores to increase speed. Benchmark = software used by manufacturers to test cpus. Overclocking = pushing it beyond rated speeds. Intel and amd are the two main producers of cpus. Fridge is secondary/disk storage; stores high volumes of veggies for long periods of time. Countertop is the motherboard; everything done on the computer. Cutting board is ram memory; it is fast to reach and allows. Silicon is used for all chips and cpus. Transistors = take signals and put them through a device to increase processing power. Nanotechnology = study of manipulating matter on a molecular or atomic level, which helps make transistors smaller and computers faster.
