PHI 175 Lecture 1: Section 1
Document Summary
Our government imposes al sorts of restrictions and demands about the way that we liver our lives. The state forces us to do things (pay taxes, treat our employees in certain ways, wearing seat belts, etc. ), and forbids us from doing other things (certain drugs, abuse, theft, marriage, etc. Its important to note that the state literally forces us to do these things. If we fail to abide by the law, then we have to give up our freedom and our lives as we know them. Another important thing to note is that we have not consented to this kind of treatment. It"s one thing if we had agreed to abide by the state"s rules, but we are never asked whether or not we"re okay with the arrangement. If a person treated us in this way, it would qualify as a serious crime.
