Rutter"s findings from studying romanian orphans at 6-11 years: results were mostly consistent. Physical development: weight: adopted before 6 months = british control > adopted between 6-24 months > adopted between 24 and 48 months. Percentage of children w mental retardation: 2% of children adopted before 6 months (same as general population) 20% had abnormal social behavior, could not differentiate parents from strangers, did not form friendships, etc.
