11/05/2013 11­5­29 Cluster A: Paranoid Mistrust and suspicion Few meaningful relationships Volatile  Tense  Sensitive to criticism  Think everyone is out to get them Clinical description­ reads hidden meaning into benign remarks of events Persistently bears grudges and is unforgiving of insults injuries or slights, is suspicious regarding the fidelity  of a spouse or sexual partner  Cluster A: Schizoid­ void of emotions and people Schizoid personality disorder­show pervasive pattern of detachment from social relationships and a very  limited range of emotions in interpersonal situations Lack of desire for close relationships Lack close friends other than first degree relatives Appears indifferent to praise or criticism  Treatment: focus on value of social relationships Cluster A: Schizotypal Psychotic­like symptoms Magical thinking Ideas of reference Illusions Odd and/or unusual Behavior Appearance  Socially isolated Highly suspicious Typically isolated think and behave in odd or unusual ways Think significant events relate directly to them  Hold odd beliefs and engage in magical thinking  Cluster B: Antisocial Noncompliance with social norms Social predators­violate right of others Irresponsible Impulsive  Deceitful Predominately male disorder, lack of conscience, empathy and remorse A man who has two families, cheats old people out of money etc Had number of names over the years (sociopathy, psychopathy) Conduct Disorder­little boys disorder  Cheats, hurts animals etc Not a personality disorder Antisocial personality disorder is EXTREMELY HARD TO TREAT Begins to decline around age 40  Cluster B: Borderline Lead tumultuous lives, characterized by patterns of unstable mods and relationships, impulsivity, coupled  with very poor self image and are at great risk for suicidal behavior  Self mutilating behavior Very intense moving from anger to deep depression in a short time  Cluster B: Histrionic Tend to be overdramatic in many aspects, speech, dress etc. excessive emotionality, sensational, sexually  provocative  E
