Perspectives on schizophrenia spectrum: above characteristics, complete recovery is rare, heterogenous (different symptoms to different people at different times) Clinical description: psychotic behavior: delusions and hallucinations, violence spectrum: normally healthy < schizophrenia < substance abuse, symptoms are continuous for at least 6 months including 2+: 1. ) disorganized thinking and speech (can"t understand them, jumble of words, quick shift of ideas) 2. ) delusional thinking (strongly held personal beliefs in spite of contrary evidence [i am lady gaga]) 3. ) disturbed perceptions (hallucinations: sensory perception without external stimuli) 6. ) deterioration from previous level of functioning (school, work, interpersonal, spiraling down ) Negative symptoms (absence from normal behavior) hallucinations delusions hallucinations extremes/excesses/exaggerated of normal behavior (e. g. pacing) most easily treated.
