Test 1 is over ch 1-ch 5 (pg 85 to 96) Homologous characters - characters in different organisms that are similar because they were inherited from a common ancestor that also has that character. Birds and bat wings are analogous, that is they have separate evolutionary origins but are superficially similar because they have both experienced natural selection that shaped them to play a key role in flight. Convergent evolution -describes the independent evolution of similar features in species of different lineages. Primate features -many primate physical adaptations reflect arboreal existence (living in trees) Stereoscopic vision - visual senses are highly developed-large eyes. Each eyes sends a signal of the visual image both halves of the brain to create an image with depth. Large brain - very large compared to other mammals their size, developed maybe by being in large social groups. Opposite thumb and big toe - primates use their hands and feet (or tails) for grasping (prehensile).
