Add lugol"s to surrounding fluid; record initial color: after 1 hour: record color of bags and surrounding fluids, test contents of starch/amylase bag w/glucose test strip; stir and test surrounding fluid for glucose; record, evaluate control. Gently swirl each tube and let stand for 1-5 mins. Hold each in front of page and try to read text. Greatest hemolysis=released most hemoglobin=easiest to read: elodea plant cells. Use forceps to remove 3 tiny leaves from growing tip of elodea plant. Make slides as described; add cover glass and observe each slide. Note position of cytoplasm w/respect to cell wall and relative size of vacuoles. Test prediction if salt sol"n replaced distilled h2o. Blot excess fluid off slide w/piece of paper towel.
