Document Summary

Skinner and watson argue because we cannot observe mental process we should focus only on cause and effect. A lot of what we can observe is how we communicate. Idea that if we give positive reinforcements, people will behave in the way we want them to do and if we give negative reinforcements, people won"t behave in the way we want them to. There are some parents who positively reinforce a particular behavior in their children that is not necessarily accepted in society. Ex: foul language, throwing a tantrum after loosing a game but still getting a trophe and taken out for pizza, etc. Sheldon uses chocolate as positive reinforcement for penny when she behaves in a way that sheldon feels is appropriate and good. What happens in the mind that causes us to behave in particular ways. How we assign causation and motivation to our behavior as well as the behavior of others.
