COMM 308 Lecture 2: Lecture #2 (8-31-16)
Document Summary
Objectivity will never be fully achieved because there will always be some subjectivity. Yes, tools exist that allow someone to be more objective, but overall we are always subjective -- the question that we choose to study already has some subjectivity. Larger sample sizes are better for quantitative data while smaller sample sizes are better for gaining more qualitative data. There is no one number/ set right sample size. The same really depends on the context of what is being studied and what kind of results you"re looking for. Generalization = quantitative research with large samples. Qualitative = in-depth understand of an immersed situation. Subjective = first person account that includes personal details. A person who reports as subjective views themselves as more credible since they are providing personal experiences. Objective = more of a third person account. A person who reports as objective view their data as more credible because of the quantitative data.
