King idomeneus; he also says he hosted odysseus when he was on his way to troy: the info he has is 20 years old! She offers him a bath and he accepts to only have his feet washed. I think that she doesn"t suspect him just because she has already lost so much hope in his coming back and denies every sign that comes along and every person who says he will be back. Odysseus himself disguised as the beggar when he tells her that odysseus is alive. Most importantly, she announces that she will nally be choosing a suitor so that they can all get on with things and this shows that she really has lost all hope. How effective was odysseus"s disguise: eurycleia recognizes on odysseus"s thigh the scar he had received during a boar hunt when he was a teenager.
