Every contact with a crime scene alters it forever. It is very rare that forensic scientists actually go to a crime scene. Grid method used for large outdoor spaces. Line method used for smaller enclosed spaces. Zone method used for multi-room indoor spaces. Spiral method used for smaller enclosed spaces. Preliminary scene is conducted with the csi arrives at the scene. Taken either using film, or increasingly, using a digital camera, and in an organized manner. Overall photos of the interior and exterior of the scene come first. Include an initial hand drawn rough sketch with appropriate measurement and references followed by a finished sketch using an appropriate scale or using sketch software. Sketches can include large parts of the scene, such as an entire room, and smaller areas such as detailed sketch of a wall where a bloodstain was found. Can create useful demonstrative evidence to give jurors a way to better visualize the crime scene.
