Any time there is cultural or legal change, people who are accustomed to a certain kind of life feel oppressed if they have to share their wealth with others. Many who had historically been republican will become democrat and the democratic. Historians describe goldwater as losing the presidential election in the greatest way party loses power until the 90"s possible about it. He lost because he did not agree with civil rights.
