Document Summary

Roles of water - where all the life processes of the body go on. Are vital to the life of all cells. Determines how much of the electrolytes stay in us and how much leave. Present and needed in larger amounts in the body. High salt diet/consumption is associated with an increased risk of high bp. Na and cl together are worse than na alone. Some people are more sensitive to salt than others. Low in red meat, butter, and other high fat foods. Part of hcl in the stomach - critical for protection from bacteria/killing outside things; break down protein. Become more salt sensitive - also raises bp. Serves as calcium bank for the other 1% of the calcium so rest of body can have too. Estrogen is important in retaining calcium in bones in women. Body will not let that 1% go out of balance!! If blood calcium is too high, it gets deposited into the bones.
