Metaphysics­ reality vs. appearance. Matrix is an appearance of reality, simulation of  reality Problem­ simulation is better than reality. Socrates­ “The unexamined life is not worth living” Movie asks “What if the fully examined life is completely horrible?” REALITY: Dystopian future­ people feed machines instead of electricity. Humans serve  machines as energy sources/ slaves Problem­ freedom is the difference between knowing if you’re in reality or simulation.  Neo chooses the red pill because he wants freedom Red pill­ gives the truth, could keep b/c of curiosity or rebellious Blue pill­ ignorance is bliss, comfort and security Ex. After 911, we chose security over freedom Neo=curious and rebellious Rebels/counter­revolutionaries=attack the machine
