Legislators have different responsibilities, including: make laws, enactment of statutory laws, constitutional amendments and appointments, budgetary powers, oversight authority, represent, represent interest or constituents, bring money to the district, constituent services. Compared to the congress, state legislators actually represent the population more than congress does. Differences between legislators and those that send them. State legislators follow certain characteristics, including: upper-middle class, upward mobility, hold college degrees, higher occupations (business, law, real estate); high paying jobs, successful with flexibility; spending a portion of their time representing their populations. When looking at representation, legislators relate to their population in different ways, one being demographics of the population. Women are slowly becoming part of politics with at least of the body of legislation as women. When going towards other minorities there are strong disparities.
