Lecture 3 (1/22/19: government the institutions that make authoritatively binding decisions for society, politics- the process through which these decisions are made, harold laswell"s definition who gets what, when, and how. The politics can be everywhere (not necessarily deals with the government) Liberalism: conservatism, historic and cultural settings political culture. Constitutionalism in the states and the texas constitutions. Constitutionalism in the middle between government with some power, people with some power: all 50 states have constitutions. The state constitutions: govern governments, set governments structure and organization, distribute powers among branches of the government, prescribe the rules by which decisions are made. States constitutions are far more detailed than the federal. More rights in texas constitutions than the federal: limit the powers of government and protect the rights of citizens, background of constitutions, limited government. States law cannot be against the us constitutions. Texas made new constitutions 5 times (1845, 1861, 1866, 1869, 1876)
