Humans detect photons (light) that pass through pupil and onto retina in order to experience vision. Humans detect vibration of air molecules w/ear drum to experience hearing. Humans detect molecules in air to experience smell. Detect molecules on tongue to experience taste. Detect pressure and temp. w/detectors embedded in skin to experience touch, temp. , and pain. Photons emitted by light bulbs and sun bounce off objects in enviro. and pass through pupil of eye back to rods and cones of retina. When photons collide w/special molecules of chem. inside rods and cones, action potentials generated to begin signal that passes back to occipital lobe=visual experience= seeing . Wavelengths=diff. energy levels of photons: short=high energy, long=low energy, diff. energy levels and wavelengths of photons provide means by which we see color. Nothing in world around us has color. Perception=conscious experience we have that sensations produce. Light=visible only bc receptors respond to wavelengths form 400-700 nm.
