In the long run, 75-85% of children whose parents get divorced turn out fine. Increase in externalizing behaviors: children start acting out, most studied effect. Internalizing: may have an increase in internalizing behaviors, less studied, may be less likely to see internalizing when parents are in the middle of a divorce, can get teacher reports. Interpersonal relations: can have increase in difficulty with peer relationships, spring from externalizing and possibly internalizing behaviors. If they become more aggressive, other kids won"t like this: academic problems. Increase in academic problems: result of externalizing behaviors, parents are less likely to help children with homework, thus leading to problems in. Interaction between gender and age: gender, girls usually improve after 1 year, girls are more likely to respond well at first. Interventions: depends on age of kid, with only the child, poorly evaluated, support groups for children of divorce, usually no control group.
