Ordinary human inquiry: brain notices, then searches for patterns and connections, formulates if/then predictions making life easier. Ex: baby learns that when they open their hand the toy drops and goes away, so to keep it, baby needs to keep their hand closed. Yes because science is like human inquiry, but in the example, the baby is not doing science. How science differs from ordinary human inquiry: science is a conscious activity. You observe more with science: science relies on standards. Inquiry doesn"t have rules, it is all personal to the human. Rules make science more reliable: role of scientific community. Consists of other researchers studying almost the same things. Makes sure you abide by standards, provides criticism, reviews you, makes sure its quality research. Always have two sides to every variable: oppose/support, reason for oppose/support. Episcopalians support because they are more liberal: status. Upper classes support because of reputation: money, political affiliation.
