The principle part of learning of criminal behavior occurs w/in intimate personal groups: have to trust/look up to the person; associate w/ frequently; lengthy/intense relationship. When criminal behavior is learned, the learning includes: (a) techniques of committing the crime, which are sometimes very complicated, sometimes very simple, and, (b) the speci c direction of motives, drives, rationalizations, and attitudes. The speci c direction of motives and drives is learned form de nitions of legal codes as favorable or unfavorable (criminal offending is either ok, or not ok no gray area. A person becomes delinquent b/c of an excess of de nitions favorable to violation of law over de nitions unfavorable to violation of law. Differential associations may vary in frequency, duration, priority, and intensity.
