Immediate stress- loss of job, loved one, natural disaster. Long term- social isolation, illness, abuse, occupational stress. Mood and though changes increase in sadness, anxiety, anger. Shift in thinking patterns, hopelessness, pessimistic beliefs. Dichotomous thinking- problems in rigid either/or terms. 70% of all suicides, lowers fear, impairs judgements. Psychodynamic- feeling neglected or rejected as a child. Depression and anger at others is redirected at oneself.
