Crime is a conduct in violation of the criminal laws of a state, a federal government, or legal jurisdiction for which there is no legally acceptable justification or excuse. Crime is the actual action, while criminality is the tendency to do so. The criminal justice system is the aggregate of all operating and administrative or technical support agencies that perform criminal justice functions. The basic divisions of the operational aspects of criminal justice are law enforcement, courts, and corrections. What are the five different goals of the criminal justice system: retribution. The act of taking revenge on a criminal perpetrator, focuses on past behavior: deterrence. Using fear of punishment to keep individuals from committing further crimes, goal is punishment. General deterrence: for people who are committing crime, the general public: incapacitation. Using imprisonment to reduce any likelihood that someone will commit a crime, removing them out of society, limited, goal is to restraint: rehabilitation.
