Disinhibition model = the direct effect of alcohol causes drinkers to be liberated from society"s norms. Leads to violent behavior while under the in uence. Alcohol is a legal drug, but drinkers have higher rates of violence than nondrinkers. Some bars have more violence than others. Although cultural norms in uence and limit behavior, alcohol does disinhibit which sometimes results in violent behavior. Yet alcohol-related violence rare in some cultures. A substantial part of the alcohol - violence link may be psychopharmacological. All 3 mechanisms are possible and explain some aspects of drug-crime link. Multiple causal mechanisms may be present in speci c crime incidents.
