Set: the scene takes place in the hull of quint"s poorly-kept fishing boat. It is lit by a single overhead light, which rocks with the motion of the ship on the water. Ambient sound includes the sloshing of the surf against hull of the boat, the creaking of boat"s planks, and a squeaking that seems to come from the overhead light as it rocks back and forth. Wardrobe: the wardrobe of each character reminds us of the roles they represent in the world of the film. Quint, the grizzled and cantankerous fisherman wears a denim shirt, unbuttoned to his navel, exposing his scraggly chest hair. Hooper, the wealthy graduate student in marine biology, wears a clean, pink polo shirt.
