Mitigation and adaptation, mitigation: tackling the causes of climate change, adaptation: adjusting and preparing for change, red cross work is a humanitarian organisation, hence we engage in climate change adaptation. Important to have the red cross red crescent focus right: as an organization we focus on the humanitarian aspects of climate change. We do not have the expertise to mingle within the international debate on emissions targets. However we underline the necessity of this agenda and align with the statements made in the latest ipcc report. Sometimes the two agendas combine for win-win solutions. For example: a reforestation initiative to prevent landslides will result in new trees that absorb co2.
