Four media models- (small thing helps us understand big concept: a system or thing used as an example to follow/imitate, 1. Katniss, gaga, beyonce, miley: only one name used. Facebook who is working for who?: will facebook die out? depends on user base, growth of facebook resembles a virus. The meme: how ideas/beliefs spread through media and society: we store info outside of our body (social media/technology) A magazine is an ipad that does not work video: book is boring, phone is interesting, book is backbone of modern civilization. Model #1: the meme: your beliefs/behaviors. A virus passed along in the mind. Ex: fandom based on birthplace/family influence: sports, religions, colleges, etc. Chance: where you were born, parents, friends, media.
