Document Summary

How the internal organs are doing (organic senses) Hairy- found all over the body, except few places. Glabrous- palms of hands, soles of feet, etc. Share some receptors and have some unique to each. Specialized receptor cells that register stimuli like pressure. Adaptation: how long it takes the receptor to kind of habituate to the stimulus. Rapidly adapting: responds in bursts to the onset of a stimulus (and then again to the change in pressure when the stimulus goes away) Slowly adapting: responds the whole time the stimulus is present (never really adapts, unless you"re wearing clothes all day) Hapsis: fine touch and pressure slow and rapid adapting. A two-point sensitivity test is used to determine how sensitive skin is. Keep moving the two points closer together, and touch simultaneously, to see when the subject thinks it"s one point instead of two. Muscle spindles provide information about changes in muscle length.
