There is a link between infectious disease and chronic diseases. There are 13 infectious agents that induce 1 distinct chronic disease/syndrome. Human papilloma virus is responsible for ovarian cancer. Hepatitis b & c have a direct influence for chronic liver disease. There is a connection between the infectious agent (h. pylori) and peptic ulcers was so revolutionary and important the research were awarded a noble peace prize. The eradication of h. pyloria can cure most cases of peptic ulcers. It was thought in the past that peptic ulcers were caused by smoking, diet, and stress. Every organ system or tissue has been a target. Bacteria, fungi, parasites, and virus are all implicated and who knows what other infectious agents are on the horizon as potential causes. A person"s age at the time of infection further influences the risk of the chronic outcome. Contracting hep b from a mother during child birth dramatically increases the risk of developing adult chronic liver diseases.
