All things being equal, more travel to places with more to see. All things being equal, more travel between partners. Simple model of travel flow (gravity model) The amount of traffic between two points should depend on the attractiveness of the points and the distance between them, the gravity. Model uses newton"s law of universal gravitation as an analogy. Depends on the potential at the origin, the attractiveness of the destination, and the resistance of the link between them. Allows you to ask what if? questions. Newton modeled the force of attraction between two points as: So more attraction between bigger things, and closer things, than between distant things or smaller things. We can use this same idea to understand travel between two places. Instead of mass, we can use population and wealth to measure the potential for each place.
