Document Summary

Unit 1: visual analysis: about understanding how and why works of art communicate to you. Defining art: art traditionally refers to a diverse range of human activities, creations, and expressions, there is no agreed upon definition of art. The creative impulse: creativity refers to the phenomenon whereby a person makes something new that has some kind of value. Inspiration: artists and designers are always looking for inspiration. They see connections most of us would never think of. Styles of art: image types: representational, idealized, stylized, abstract, non-objective. Art that seeks to resemble the world of natural appearance. Art that emphasizes design rather than exact representation when working with natural forms. It can be fairly realistic or somewhat abstract, and is often simplified or distorted. Art in which images or objects are recognizable, but the form has been generalized to extract the essence of a real object rather than representing its surface appearance.
