Has three objectives: etiology - he cause of a disease, pathogenesis - the development of disease, structural and functions changes brought about disease and their effects o the body. Infection - invasion or colonization of the body by pathogens presence of a microbe in a part of the body where it is not normally found. Disease - abnormal state in which the body is not performing normal functions. An infection amy exist in the absence of detectable disease. Many bacteria have the potential to be pathogenic. Many harmless microorganisms establish inside parts of the human body and on its surface in microbial communities called micro biomes. Microbes bene t our health as well as cause disease. Transient microbiota may be present for weeks, or months. Normal microbiota permanently colonize the host and do not cause disease under normal conditions.
