NSG 3336 Lecture Notes - Lecture 66: Tunica Vaginalis, Inguinal Canal, Spermatic Cord
Document Summary
Epidemiology > can occur in any age, 2/3 of cases between 10-20 years old, early occurs in older men. Pathophysiology = twisting or rotation of the testes resulting in acute ischemia > Torsion may vary from 90 degrees to 360 degrees about spermatic cord. Torsion of the appendices of the testis also presents with pain but may be more gradual in onset. Patient may have pain for several days before seeking medication attention. Diagnostics = history, presenting manifestations, color doppler ultrasound, and radionuclide scanning. 2/3 of tests salvaged may atrophy in fate rst 2-3 years post torsion. Patients ought to seek immediate care when experiencing testicular pain to prevent permanent sequelae. Epidemiology > incidence rate is about 1% in adult males, but occur in men older than. Pathophysiology = collection of peritoneal uid within the scrotum around the testes, between the parietal and visceral layers of the tunica vaginalis.
